Franklinton*

Founded by Lucas Sullivant in 1797 and poised to be the state’s capitol; Franklinton didn’t quite make it. It became annexed by Columbus as a neighborhood and had long lingered behind other neighborhoods in development due to constant flooding, the worst was in 1913 when water levels reached 22 feet. The neighborhood now has a floodwall and development has started to pick up in the form of single-family homes. There have been an increase in events taking place in the neighborhood such as Urban Scrawl at Dodge Park, the only urban skateboarding park in the city. Many people who have any familiarity with Franklinton are those who come to visit one of the local restaurants clustered in the middle of the neighborhood on Broad St.
