Highland West

When people display their ignorance and say that the Hilltop is a scary place, they probably mean Highland West, which gives people heading west on the main road, Broad St, their first impression and it’s a strong one. People take what they see here and and write off the entire area altogether, which is a shame. As is the case with any other Columbus neighborhood that is going through tough times, one is unlikely to run into any problems as long as one is attentive and you’re there during the day. Crime is an issue here and a recently formed neighborhood association is aiming to take back the neighborhood. A huge asset for this neighborhood is the second most intact and substantial urban commercial district in the entire city on W Broad St which lends itself to walking or biking. It has the foundation to be a great commercial street that rivals the Short North, which used to look like this not so long ago. Problem is, aside from dollar stores and pawn shops, there is little else there now aside from empty buildings waiting to be used once again.

Highlighted Destinations

El Huarache Veloz – 2655 W. Broad St. The best restaurant in the neighborhood.
